Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

Stretch marks during pregnancy are very common for most women.  These are not a major health concern, they simply mean that a person’s skin is growing and stretching too rapidly and it leaves little lines on a person’s stomach and other areas.  These stretch marks aren’t a health risk, but they certainly don’t look appealing.  For pregnant women, these unsightly lines are most often a small reminder that they gave birth, once the child is born.  They don’t usually go away on their own, but can be treated in a few different ways.

The most popular and simplest treatment for stretch marks during pregnancy is using lotions and creams to lessen the severity of them.  Many companies sell lotion formulas with cocoa butter, which is said to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the skin.  These lotions are not going to be the cheapest on the shelf, but if a person is willing to spend a few dollars more than they would on regular lotion, they can use this method to treat their stretch marks during pregnancy.

If lotions and creams do not work well enough for a person, then another treatment is laser therapy.  For a modest fee, people can make an appointment with a dermatologist and have these unsightly lines removed and faded by laser.  Most skin problems and afflictions are available now to be treated with laser therapy, and stretch marks during pregnancy are not left out of this availability.

For some people, treating stretch marks is not of major concern.  Many mothers simply see it as a rite of passage when having a child that there will be stretch marks.   For those women, stretch marks during pregnancy do not need to be treated, but some will want to get rid of them.  For those who cannot stand the look and want the stretch marks to go away, these are the two most popular ways to get rid of stretch marks during pregnancy.

Knowing the reason behind the formation of stretch marks allows fighting it better. Under-replenished collagen is the main culprit in most of the cases; its operative ingredient being vitamin C, a diet rich in it can put it under control. Also, vitamin K and lavender oil; at worst, these two are marginally beneficial when it comes to treating stretch marks.

But if you like complications, you may consider the following methods.

  • Make a Stretch Mark Cream: Mix 1/2 a cup of cocoa butter to 2 Tablespoons of each: wheat germ oil; light sesame seed oil; vitamin E oil and add 1 tsp of apricot kernel oil and 4 tsp of molten bee-wax. The mixture is to be heated gently until cocoa butter and beeswax dissolve. This is best applied lukewarm in lavish amounts on the thighs, hips, abs, lower back and upper arms. It also stimulates the skin's circulation bringing in more nutrients to the areas. This also decreases cellulite. The mixture is to be preserved in a covered jar.
  • Skin Brushing: A vigorous massage with a skin brush during a shower after applying vitamin E oil is a tried and tested remedy to stretch marks. Gentle to medium-strength circular strokes are also effective for making stretch marks heal faster and to decrease cellulite. The addition of shea butter (a hypoallergenic moisturizer) acts as a catalyst in softening the skin; along with a stretch-mark body scrub, it keeps the skin shiny and happy for a long time. Else, if you can stand the smell, cod-liver oil can work miracle over a given length of time.
