Wrist Tattoo - Which one is for you?

For long it has been an obsession to adorn the body and certain body areas as a result have gained prominence over others. One such is the wrist, though tattooing at that part of the body is more popular with men. And the good news is wrist tattoos are again on the rise and this time, even the women are falling big time for it.

Stats show the top celebrities to be the biggest fans - personalities as varied as the designs themselves. From single color star(s), simple quotes and statements to dazzling color combinations, catchy punch lines and beautiful shapes, wrist tattoos can now be located almost everywhere. But is it just that?

No! The wrist is one of those locations that one can flaunt or hide at will; that gives the freedom of revealing or concealing a tattoo there as well. The inside of the wrist is the most convenient area that way but requires the design to be small and sleek in comparison to one’s wrist size; a large tattoo shall mar the entire look heavily and put forth a disproportionate appearance. That way, plain text or star(s) are the safest - but that’s enough of technicality; it’s time to peek into the creative side. Or simply, the design you would like to don.

Whether it’s the inner part of the wrist or the frontal part, if you are a tattoo connoisseur, you would like to wear it in combination. A tattoo sleeve or simply, hand tattoos can suffice perfectly; if you are daring enough, you are not going to settle for anything less than a tattoo encircling the wrist in a bracelet manner. Or, if you are a rather religious sort, a crucifix shall keep you busy the entire day giving you ample number of chances to kiss it whenever you’d like. But purists usually like to wear Celtic designs, barbed wire or Sanskrit slokas; but then again, self-expression is a birth-right to us and more so if it does not harm another.

It has been noticed that people usually retract when it comes to tattooing the wrist(s), pain being a major cause due to the lack of cushioning in the wrist area. Now, that’s a myth, for most of the people with wrist tattoos claim it to be a relatively painless phenomenon. The other cause is the healing time; being an exposed area that stretches with every movement, it takes time to heal and sometimes, even major touch-ups later. We have heard more than a quarter mourn.

That was fact and figures and now to a different form of it. The number of celebrities donning wrist tattoos of recent is on an upswing; that includes names like Nicole Ritchie to Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. Designs range from red shooting stars, words like virgin and breathe to the lips, Sanskrit characters, lotus and Elvish runes, the same as sported by all the nine actors in the Lord of the Rings.
