Stretch Marks Home Remedy

While medical professionals argue stretch marks to be incurable through any clear-cut treatment and require major cosmetic surgeries for eradicating them completely, there are home-based methods that are nearly as effective but devoid of the inherent complications. So, if you are one without a ton of money to spare, you may consider these medical/surgical alternatives. That shall definitely make more sense. These preventive methods can also control possible damages. But while these measures shall make stretch marks less visible, one should not harbor illusive ideas regarding eradicating them completely; stretch marks cannot be just made to disappear, at best they can be minimized up to a great degree. That of course, is worth if it can help avoid the post-operative pain.

Following the age-old adage prevention is better than cure, the best way to treat stretch marks is treating them right from the moment they are taking form. Early preventive measures counterbalances the skin’s failing elasticity; moisturizing agents (cocoa butter, for example) and vitamin E compounds (almond oil being one) does a fine job here. For reducing stretch marks resulting from obesity, such ingredients must meet regular exercising of the affected area. Generally, such stretch marks show up on the hips and thighs; straight leg raises give good results while for the belly region, stomach crunches are the best. For other fat-accumulating body parts, there are exercises available in galore on the Internet.

Knowing the reason behind the formation of stretch marks allows fighting it better. Under-replenished collagen is the main culprit in most of the cases; its operative ingredient being vitamin C, a diet rich in it can put it under control. Also, vitamin K and lavender oil; at worst, these two are marginally beneficial when it comes to treating stretch marks.

But if you like complications, you may consider the following methods.

  • Make a Stretch Mark Cream: Mix 1/2 a cup of cocoa butter to 2 Tablespoons of each: wheat germ oil; light sesame seed oil; vitamin E oil and add 1 tsp of apricot kernel oil and 4 tsp of molten bee-wax. The mixture is to be heated gently until cocoa butter and beeswax dissolve. This is best applied lukewarm in lavish amounts on the thighs, hips, abs, lower back and upper arms. It also stimulates the skin's circulation bringing in more nutrients to the areas. This also decreases cellulite. The mixture is to be preserved in a covered jar.
  • Skin Brushing: A vigorous massage with a skin brush during a shower after applying vitamin E oil is a tried and tested remedy to stretch marks. Gentle to medium-strength circular strokes are also effective for making stretch marks heal faster and to decrease cellulite. The addition of shea butter (a hypoallergenic moisturizer) acts as a catalyst in softening the skin; along with a stretch-mark body scrub, it keeps the skin shiny and happy for a long time. Else, if you can stand the smell, cod-liver oil can work miracle over a given length of time.
